Here’s the irony.
This world is a place where the individuals who stockpile their capital are honoured and those who share their good deeds are somehow “undermined”.
J.K Rowling, one of the bestselling authors of all time has been scribbled off from the list of the recognised Forbes billionaire’s list. The mastermind behind the Harry Potter series has been demoted for being too charitable.
Everyone knows about her billionaire status and her success stories but only a few know that once, she used to be a person covered with many complications in her life like heartbreak, divorce and money issues. These difficulties persisted through as she wrote down the manuscript of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone on the napkins in cafes, where she worked to earn her living.
This book not only made her from an unemployed single mother to all time bestselling author but also earned her a spot on Forbes billionaire list, becoming the first author to do so. Moreover, she is a founder of a nonprofit organisation which helps disadvantaged or institutionalised children in Eastern Europe to get what they deserve. As a result of this, her resources has alleviated.
She is so generous that once in an interview she said that:
“You have a moral responsibility when you’ve been given far more than you need, to do wise things with it and give intelligently”.
On one hand, some people sympathise with this statement while on another hand, it’s peculiar that many people would choose to receive a huge sum of money rather do some humanitarian work. This incident celebrates Rowling’s magnanimity. But at the same time, she is being held down from the Forbes billionaire list to the Forbes ‘Billionaire drop offs’ list.
Imagine if more affluent billionaires get inspired by this act and set off to eradicate poverty from this world, we would see the change soon. Nevertheless, we celebrate this humble gesture by J.k Rowling and even though she went down on a list, she hiked up the smiles on a million faces.
